Maybe a sanity rating, similar to Armor. A minor event might roll 1 die

to attack, a major event might roll 2d. If the event exceeds the Sanity

on one die, the player loses a sanity point; if the event rolls both
dice higher, he has a breakdown. The Sanity rating could be a fixed
score, so you always have, for example, a 7 as long as you

For example, Jerry sees the local high school's head cheerleader
devoured by a shapeless fiend.	This is violent but not all that weird
-- the head cheerleader is *always* doomed. Jerry takes a 1d8 roll
against his Sanity 7 and passes handily--no effect.
Later on, Jerry plays in FMA Sheep, an event of such soul-rending,
mind-wrenching proportions that it rolls 2dSQRT(105). Both dice exceed
his sanity rating, so he loses a SAN and also gibbers frantically when
in the presence of mint jelly.
