Question on Salvo Missiles

Standard Missiles have a max Range of 24" and a 360 homing within 6" on
enemy 
targets, with the closest enemy taking the hit.

The ER Missiles have a max Range of 36" and a 360 homing within 6" on
enemy 
targets, with the closest enemy taking the hit.

I just want to make sure we are using them correctly, we have a new
player 
who want to take the FSE ships out and we don't normal play heavy
missile 
batteries so I thought I ask.
