If you get Dreadplanets, then non-canonical designs aren't a big deal.
Especially ones which are very minor variants of existing designs,
or variants that appear in FB1 but with no SSD.

And 12 in a class probably isn't enough. You'd have to make a
new version with, say, 4 bolt-on MT Racks instead. Which could
be how the DD/M design started.

Also a variant of the CL and a variant of the SDN.
If anyone builds a dreadplanet, you can be sure those
Furious CLs will be converted to the missile variants,
and the SDNs (which swap out 1 or 2 hanger bays) likewise.

Or a Goshkhov with 4 MTRs rather than 2 SMRs.

You don't need everyone to have them - just enough so
that committing 30% of your fleet budget for 10 years
to one ship is a Bad Idea if you have to fight any one
of a number of likely opponents.
