 Make up squad cards and keep them off table.  I think this is more
realistic anyway--your opponent should have no way of knowing that Squad
1 is a Vet-1/Confident but Squad 2 is a Green-2/Shaken. 
 You can put 2-3 squads on a 3x5 card (depending on how many different
weapons and bits of shiny kit they're carrying, and how small you can
write/read).  Half a dozen cards should be sufficient for a couple of
infantry platoons plus their vehicles, artillery, and air support--a
medium large game.
