Subject: ESU Tank Regiment
Well, I've got a bit more time to work on this stuff
than I was planning to have--I'm stuck on verdammt
quarters with a hellacious infection in my knee. So
not much to do but sit and type. These organizations
are designed to be interoperable between DSII and
SGII. DSII point costs are listed for each vehicle,
and the translation into DSII terms for infantry are
listed in parenthesis next to each type of platoon.
For ESU Tank and Motorized Rifle Regiments/Brigades,
the main difference between a brigade and a regiment
is that a regiment is generally part of a division,
while a brigade is independant, answering to an Army
or Corps structure. Organization is for a Tank
Regiment, the next message will cover the differences
to make it a brigade, as well as some typical
attachments to a brigade.
TRs and MRRs come in a wide variety of flavors.
Guards: Grav equipment, MDCs, Superior electronics
Category A: Fast GEV equipment, HKP, Enhanced
electronics
Category B: Tracked/Wheeled, HKP, Enh Electronics
Category C: Tracked/Wheeled, HVC, Basic Electronics
On more settled worlds, Guards and Category A units
make up the first-line troops, while Category B units
guard more backwater areas and are not manned at full
strength (brought up to strength with recalled
reservists) and Category C units are reserve units. A
low-priority planet may have a single Category B MRR
and the rest of it's active military being Category C
and the reserves being unmotorized Rifle units.
MBTs are designed with mounting lugs for either
reactive or ablative armor. The extra points paid for
improved engine/suspension are already figured into
the listed point costs. The cost of the armor itself
is listed seperately.
Equipment given is for Category A units. Downgrading
or upgrading is left as an exercise for the reader.
Heavy tanks (size 4&5) are not part of the standard
TR, and are consolidated in Heavy Tank Brigades at
Army level.
Note: K varient of any given vehicle means it has been
outfitted with extra C3 equipment to serve as command
post.
