For Cross-Cultural weirdness, read:
Destined to Witness : Growing Up Black in Nazi Germany
by Hans J. Massaquoi
Hans J.Massaquoi is the son of a Liberian consul and a German girl. He
was born in the 1920's in Hamburg and grew up there (his father
disappeared from Germany soon after his birth). Being quite impressed
by Nazi fanfare and the athmospere of the time, he actually wanted to
join the Hitlerjugend and the Wehrmacht ! Somehow, he survived the
times with his humor intact.
Highly recommended !!!!!!!!
I especially enjoyed it because he grew up in the same corner of
Hamburg I did, but it is worth reading even without that.
