Maybe it's just here in stealth-Hispanic Saint Louis or maybe it's me
but
there is sure a wide variation in the Spanish (especially the
colloquialisms and slang) spoken by the very varied members of the local
Hispanic population (my Spanish is over 30 years rusty so I just stick
to
English but I have observed some interesting by play between Hispanics
here in Saint Louis based on mixed understandings of terms.)

And where else but on this list could I get such a refreshing reminder
that Hispanics (like any other group) are not all cookie cutter people.
I love to quote this experience to (some of) my non-Hispanic co-workers
but I'm sure I'd get the "...And your point is..." looks. Oh well, it's
my job to give the opportunity to learn not to try and make them learn.

I'd settle for recruiting to have at least one qualified Hispanic hired
(0 for 220 plus in the last 2 (or was it 3) years.) Not too impressive
but the numbers of Asian/Pacific Islanders are as bad and Native
American/Alaskan Natives... oh my. Even by "The Community" (much less
federal workforce or private work force) numbers we are ineffective.
And
by policy there is a 'emphasis' on recruiting qualified minorities and
women.	Something is not working.

Enough rambling.

Play the game.
