my uncle was a tanker in WWII. served in shermans and cromwells. The
Sherman
was called a "ronson" after the cigarette lighter of the same name. 
Popular
banter on tactics was if you see a tiger what do you do??.Get out of the
tank. it's safer.  Numbers and the close ranges of the bocage helped but
he
maintained that watching shells bounce off of a tiger was not a
heartening
sight!!
