Not to get into that flame war, but it reminds me of an old GHQ ad in
Wargamer's Digest in the *ahem* 70s. It showed a GHQ tank (1/285 scale)
against a stack of counters. It made some mention of the counters being
easily blown around by wind. They were, of course, fighting against
board games, not necessarily against the use of counters instead of
miniatures.

I think the counters versus miniatures thing usually involves those who
like miniatures games for the aesthetics versus those who just like
miniatures games for the way miniatures games work. I don't see the
sense in fighting. Miniatures will almost always look better, but if you
can't afford miniatures, are a slow painter, or just not a good painter,
I don't see the problem using counters. Or Micro Machines ships. Or
blocks of wood. Or kitchen utensils, etc.
