Subject: RE: [OT] Alien Figures
G'day Brian,
>Xenomorph (from Aliens):
>Adults:
>1. Move 6" (as Power Armor)
Experience with the Daleks and "GZG bugs" in DS2 suggests that you may
want
to up this a little (maybe 8" they were pretty fast blighters) otherwise
it
could take all day for anything to happen.
[Bri] Probably a good idea. With 6" they could keep up with power armor
and
slow tracked, but not much else. But my primary ideas was to have them
hide
and wait until the food, er opponents, are within close assault range.
Remember close assaults get double movement. After the assault (assuming
they won), they can hide in the debris.
>6. Aliens can go into hiding in ANY cover (any terrain but clear).
So just not open ground?
[Bri] Correct. There may be some exceptions where they would be obvious,
but
in most terrain, they could hide.
>At night, they may go into hiding in ANY terrain
So even in the open? Just checking by the way.
[Bri] Correct. They are black, so light inhancement is of less value
(especially when they do not move). They are the same temprature as the
environment, so IR is useless. Especially if not moving, they would
likely
be taken as rocks or plants or some other natural feature of the
landscape.
>7. AFPCs do not work against xenomorphs
>attacking from hiding (see above).
As the xenomorph must CA to attack then why wouldn't the APFC's work?
Don't
they automatically go off when the sensors are tripped?
[Bri] I thought of several things at this point. Some may be invalid,
but...
I used poor wording and was, somewhat abreviating the rules. What I
meant
was that if the xenomorphs attacked/defended within 1" (no range to
charge)
the APFC would be useless (they would be on the vehicle before it would
activate. Since the xenomorphs have some stealth (no heat signature, do
not
show up on movement sensors until they attack, etc.), the APFC sensors
may
be prone to confusion. On the other hand, perhaps not. What does APFC
use as
sensors anyway? Sonor? IR detection? How big a signature would it need
to
keep from going off due to birds, bushes moving, etc.? Perhaps the
xenomorph
signature is too low. This was primarily added to keep all armor from
carring them if going against xenomorphs. Ignore it as you see fit.
>9. Acid Splash. If an alien squad is
>killed within 1" of another unit that
>unit may take damage from the acid splash.
Do you mean other xenomorph units too? I would've thought they'd be
pretty
immune to their own blood ;)
[Bri] No. Xenomorphs are immune to the acid splash OF THIER OWN HIVE.
They
may not be immune to it by xenomorphs from other hives. In SG2, you
could
probably make it a resistance instead of an immunity, but in DS2 it
would
have to be an immunity for any effect.
>13. Xenomorphs are immune to the effects
>of hostile environments
At least the ones humans are likely to be able to tolerate. You may want
to
think about punishing them a little in scenarios where they're up
against PA
in VERY hostile (hot/cold) environments. Maybe something along the lines
of
PA are dropped into "furnace" (or "freezer") conditions and must do what
they have to do in 5 turns or their suits will overload. Unbeknownst to
the
PA there's some aliens down there too. The aliens aren't incapacitated
by
the conditions, but if they try to hide without being in cover (i.e. the
kind of cover anybody can hide in without trying to thermal match) then
they
do 2 chits worth of damage to themselves (risk of messing up their
system as
they try to thermal match).
Just a thought
Beth
[Bri] Great thought.
Or the ever popular catch the PA near the end of thier battery life. The
APC
got toasted, so they have to walk back to the base. Battery is low, so
they
need to conserve power (slower movement, less sensors, same toughness
and
