I expect that you're speaking of the Universal or Bren Carriers here
and not the .303 British Bren LMG. Aside from the general use of the
Boyes AT rifle in .51 calibre from the various Infantry carriers. The
Aussies did build up their own Bren carriers with a 2lbr. They never
deployed them though.
One note about the Bren carriers is that they were a separate design
based on the same chassis with some rather mission specific fits. In
the case of the Bren carrier, there was a projection in the left
front for the Bren to fire through.
There was a Vicker's carrier (No slot for the Bren gun or projection
iirc) and the Vickers was fitted in its own specific manner. There
was also an infantry carrier with special side seating and one or two
other specific models early on (Mortar carrier).
The various productions were all amalgamated into the Universal
Carrier for quicker production with fewer mission specific
modifications. There was a host of other types made later on in
Britain and in other commonwealth nations of similar designs. The US
made the T16 with an additional road wheel. As the war progressed
more odd modifications were made of the Universal carrier the most
interesting being the Flame thrower variants.
