Nice gaming weekend

Subject: Nice gaming weekend

Hello everybody

Just came back from a very nice gaming weekend near Bermen/Germany. It
was a small mini-con (12 participants) mainly devoted to DBM. I was
quite happy with my DBM performance, winning 2 out of 5 games, and
coming very close to winning a	match against a very competent player.

To bring this on-topic, the organizer had also asked participants to
offer demos of other games, and I suggested to organize a Full Thrust
game. Once word of this got out, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only
were there a number of interested players, I got several e-mails 'Can I
bring my own fleet ?', 'Me too?'. In the end, 4 out of the 12 players
had Full Thrust experience. I didn't expect that high a percentage here
in Germany. A total of 7 signed up for the game.

One player brought a fine, painted table-top and space 'terrain' that
was much better than anything I could provide.

We had fine weather all the weekend - rare in Germany :-( and played
outside all the time. Full Thrust was scheduled for the evening, so we
played under a star-studded sky, enhancing the experience.

After some discussion, we settled on an NAC vs. LLAR fleet frontal
encounter, with 4000 points a side, 3 or 4 players a side, with
cinematic movement and FB1 rules. The game went fairly smoothly and
everyone enjoyed it. Most memorable for me was an embarassment early in
the game, when I tried to shave too closely around an asteroid cloud,
totaled a cruiser and had to divert a destroyer into an onrushing NAC
fighter swarm - the result was the same as if I had flown into the
asteroid :-(

One lesson learned is that the fleets were too large for a group of
beginners, especially the shooting took a bit too long.

A nice game, some more gamers interested in Full Thrust...

Oh, and somebody gave me a photocopy of 'More Thrust' :-)

Greetings
