Yeap i use the same method but find a dark brown cloth gives better
effects
than black.. not sure why?? I support the figs with fingers to improve
angles etc. the cloth draping makes this possible.. for results look at

Part of it is concentration. You want every one out before it
discharges due to the fact that it won't work very well if the doors
are open. People slowly wandering out don't help that. Note the doors
in computer rooms that have a gaseous suppression system. They have
strong automatic closers, seals around the jambs and have to have
pressure rated walls with no openings (aside from the usual fire
stop). We have annual tests of the Terminal Gear rooms as well as
data processing rooms here at CNN. This involves opening a door,
taping a blower too it and seeing how much you can raise the
pressure. Openings are found and hopefully sealed.
Now in a very small engine compartment, you can be assured of a
pretty good concentration due to your balance of gaseous suppressant
vs volume. Same for the ammo/crew compartment of a FAASV (the ammo
track for the M109 that was mentioned). A Big big 7500 square food
computer room needs a lot of gas. Any openings lowers your
concentration.
Thats how I understand the system function from the fire suppression
system engineers.
Now, to bring it back on topic, I suspect that by 2150 there will be
a really neat fire suppressant that works on combustion but doesn't
bother respiratory function and isn't toxic after it is used (like
HALON is) on a fire.

Of course we never got to hear about the Dalek specific
weapons and defensive systems at all.
Like the rapid deployable defensive position. It's a

As others have mentioned most scanners have a short range of focus,
so scanning 3 dimensional objects is a problem.
As far as restoring an out of focus scan or picture, you can't.
There is a bit of improvement that can be done with the sharpen
filter, but not much.

This subject gets alot of play in the miniature painting forums. Here's
a
couple of suggestions:
* Instead of trying to put down the scanner lid you'll get better
results
by draping a white cotton cloth over the mini (or other color depending
on
the color balance of your scanner -- light blue is also common). Others
have built small boxes lined with gloss-coated white paper to reflect
light into the shadows of the mini.
* Better results come if you scan at a high resolution (I scan at
300dpi).
You can then reduce the size and resolution in your scanning software.
You'll generally get better results than if you just scanned at the
lower
resolution and size. Disadvantage -- 10+ meg photos which are slow when
you manipulate them, but they should be culled down to 50-200K when your
finished (cropped, reduced, and changed to JPG format).
* Each scanner brand has its own focal length. LED scanners, like the
newer Canon models, have virtually no focal length and just don't work
for
minis. Other than that, you just have to experiment. If you're
shopping
for a scanner, bring a couple figs and a background with you. The store
clerk may think you're strange, but if you put them on the bed carefully
they shouldn't have a problem. If they don't have set-ups for sample
scanning shop somewhere else!

Re: [OT]Scanning minis
I have variously read about people scanning miniatures. When I try to do
this, I get pictures that are woefully out of focus. Even re-sharpening
with Adobe photoshop doesn't help much. Are there special tricks to it ?
Or do you need the right type of scanner ?

Hi,
I was just poking through Jeremey Claridge's website, and came across
his
"The Web's first ever FREE 3D Dungeon Floor Plans" page. He has a huge
set
of dungeon and space station floor plans that are designed in PDF files
so
you can print them out then fold-tab-A-into-slot-B and put them
together.
Brilliant stuff - very well done. Would be excellent for FMAS science
base/space ship/space station adventures, or FMAS fantasy stuff if
you're
into that. Take a look.
I hadn't seen these mentioned onlist before, so I thought I'd point them
out...
Hope you don't mind Jeremey - you need more press ;-)

This isn't the sort of thing I typically buy,
however, I do know that for things which do
fall into my "must have" category, a photograph
goes a long way to convincing me. You might do
better if you could put an image with the lot.
Do you have a flatbed scanner or a digital camera?

Well, as the only 6mm Future Wars I know of are the GZG figs as sold by
Geo-Hex, I'd say they are probably pictured on the Geo-Hex site, though
Mighty could always take a look hisself and give us the numbers.
And, the neat thing is, if I'm right above, it actually IS on topic for
the
GZG mailing list. ;->=
Oh, no wonder they're perfect for DSII...

Hi everyone,
Does anybody know where I can get my grubby little hands (sorry been
painting and looking at Agis' website, so feeling slightly inadequate)
on a
copy of More Thrust. GZG say its not going to be re-printed, but the
Fleet
books don't quite replace it (they keep referring to it!).
Cheers
Richard
