Subject: RE[FT]Starfire bug designs/gunboats
I was reading some past mail, and reading some of the comments about
gunboats raised an idea.
Bug Gunboats
Mass=2 (bigger than a fighter)
Speed=18, Secondary movement=9 (moved & treated as fighters)
Endurance=8 (larger size allows longer duration)
Flown in groups of 3 (requires internal hanger of 9 mass)*
Can be targeted by shipboard weapons, with modifiers (only hits (and
destroys) on a 5 or 6, except cl.1 bats, will hit with a 4-6, SML`s
require
to role against the gunboat group, and gunboats are allowed to intercept
before they hit, but any that hit, destroy a gunboat).
Targeted as normal by PDS (larger size vs heavier armour).
Carries a minimal beam weapon (normal fighter attacks against
starships).
Treated as a HEAVY, INTERCEPTER fighters in dogfights (Big armoured
craft(in
fighter terms) with a PDS ablities).
Can carry 2 SML missiles each (for a total of 6 for a group, so roll 1D6
to
hit for entire group, same as normal SML`s)
OR
Can carry 4 Fighter missiles (6 MU range, 1D6 dammage, same as torp
fighters), allowing either multiple attacks or salvo attacks against
starships (all 4 fired at once).
OR
Can carry AFHAWK missiles (takes 1/2 loadout), allowing a gunboat group
to
fire as the AFHAWK missiles as discussed on list (8 MU range, free
ADFCON
ability, destroys 1D6 fighters, just like scatterguns), or fire full
AFHAWK
loadout at once, dobbling AF dammage (2D6 fighters destroyed).
Cost=44 each (expensive, but ablities have to be compaired to
vulnerbilities
to shipboard weapons)
*Also, can be launched from external racks on starships at a mass of 8
for a
3 gunboat group. To land/reload, requires ship to coast for 4 turns with
NO
drive. If drive is used, gunboats are destroyed and ship it`s self loses
1
CF.
Just a rough idea, with something I forgot to include or explain
properly.
