FWIW Australia is 100 today.

On Jan 01, 1901, the colonies of New South Wales, Victoria,
Tasmania, South Australia, Queensland and (just) Western Australia
became federated states in a new nation: Australia.

The first time a nation had been created by a referendum of its
inhabitants,
by the Ballot not the Bullet.

It's interesting to think I've lived in Oz for 1/3 of its lifetime.
