I'll take a rifle like the FN over just a knife. More reach, better to
block
with for most things. Or at the very least, comparable.

Hmmm...
1) I think you under-rate a rifle. Or at least the comment would depend
on
the type of rifle. If I have to go HTH with a G-11 in my hands, I might
not
find it much use (not quite as good as a baseball bat). But if I have an
FN,
much more dangerous - a good jab with the barrel can break teeth or
seriously damage a kneecap and if I get a chance to throw in a
buttstroke,
the ribcage and head might get some nasty damage. I think d4 is a bit
week -
an AAR might be d6 and an older, more solid rifle might be d8.

2) A bayoneted equipped rifle might get one shift up. (to d6/d10
respectively).

3) What happens if you get engaged in CC and are holding (based off
something like a Space Crusade Scout figure) a pistol and a knife? Yes,
it
is CC, but if I'm not out of ammo, you're going to come at me, I might
have
to repel/block the first attack, but then I'm going to shoot you
repeatedly
in the vitals. How should the presence of firearms such as pistols be
resolved as part of CC?

4) If I'm rushed and end up fighting with my FN with a bayonet on it, or
in
HTH with my SMG while my opponent tries to kill me with a knife - can I
shoot him in the middle of CC if I make some sort of a test?

5) Where does grappling (everything from jiu jutsu for submission locks
to
just plain wrassling while two guys try to choke the life out of each
other)
enter CC and does it impact the dice rolled?

6) How do we include a personal flamer? Fire combat (pardon the pun)
weapon?
CC weapon? Both?

7) Should being encumbered provide a negative CC shift?

Just some thoughts to stir the mix.
