When I was first playing FT, I used Silent Death miniatures for all my
ships.

While the canopies and cockpits make the ships appear to be fighter
sized,
it wouldn't be hard to change them to sensor domes or file them off.
The
main reason to get them is cost. 5 SD fighters which are frigate size
used
to retail for about $4.50 Canadian, compared to 2 or 3 frigates from
GeoHex
for $8.50 Canadian. Since then, SD products have gone up and KR has
repackaged things with more ships in a blister to be more competitive.

The key things for an SD fleet is size limitations. The miniatures get
no
smaller than a frigate, I'd say, and the biggest gun boat is still a
heavy
cruiser or battlecruiser. The SD warhounds (some nice, some not so
nice)
can make functional carriers and battle dreadnoughts (a touch smallish
for
superdreadnoughts and fleet carriers). However, the warhounds have two
bases, so you'll need to get out the drill and a dab of putty if you use
them for FT (or just make the front post the measuring point).	As an
aside,
the AOG B5Wars scale miniatures frequently have the same 2-post problem.
