I found this to be true as well during my first few vector games. Higher
thrust ships are at a distinct disadvantage in vector because their
higher
thrust is less effective. 4 is very good because it gives 2 thruster
points, which is about the most you really need.

Above that, and you've "wasted" mass better spent on weapons, because,
as
Tom so aptly pointed out, it's far easier to get you nose pointed the
right
direction.
