And of course, there's the traditional argument:
6 - In the 20th century, carriers are the only thing that can project
the
power of the fleet beyond the range of the ship-borne guns. (This is the
same argument used in the book "Debt of Honor" by Tom Clancy).
This doesn't apply to Full Thrust games, because the scale of the
conflict
is too small to worry about the ability to project power into the planet
next door.
