it is my understanding of IRC that we don't all need to connect to the
same server, hence the "relay" in "internet relay chat". thus, we can
all
connect to our friendly neighbourhood irc servers and chat away, as long
as we're on the same channel. creating a channel is easy - just join it,
and if it doesn't exist, it gets created.

my contacts recommend the EFNet group of irc servers, listed at:

http://www.efnet.org/irc.html

there are nodes all over the place (well, all over the US, anyway;
there's
one each in the uk, canada andd oz). anyway, i connected to a couple of
servers, joined #gzg and chatted to myself for a bit, so it all works.
i'll hang around for a bit, so if anyone irc-capable wants to try it
out,
you know where to find me.
