Beg pardon? Threads tend to go strange places on this list (I plead
guilty
of said offense and throw myself on the mercy of the merciless court...)
but this is odder than usual...

The Yanks used some interesting/strange helmets in the early 19th C?
(Probably around the same time they were experimenting with
cutlass/pistol
combos - two for the price of one, and like a lot of combination
weapons,
not workable in either role)
