I was chating with an engineer Warrent Officer who was down instructing
mine
awareness today, and he told me that there are mines being developed
that
can locate and detect the number of personnel that are walking through a
mine field. Once this data is assessed, the mines are set off, without
any
human guidence. If only one man is in the field, then the nearest mine
to
him will go off. If it's a section, then only the mines around, and
closest
to the group will go off (these are bounding type mines). Hmmmm... if
such
is so now, future mines should prove to be even more interesting.

Another interesting bit a trivia is that they have developed an optical
sighing system for the next greneration of American assault rifles,
that,
through the use of a new optic (laser range finder), is capable of
target
tracking, accurate range determination, and grenade fuze setting proir
to
launching of the grenade. Maybe this is all old news to everyone out
there,
but I thought it was interesting.
