Glover, spake thusly upon matters weighty:

I thought one saw was D10 the other D12 (didn't have my charts with
me at work). Sorry.

I had considered this point. However... we're saying the weapon is
less effective at close ranges? I really doubt that. Let's consider
the double gauss saw in the turret in question. With Regulars firing
it, we get 2d10+d8 and the range bands are 8/16/24/32/40. With
a basic (did I get the name right? d6 anyway) firecon, which might be
the best one has on such a light weapon, you get range bands of
12/24/36/48/60 which is great, but your attack roll will be 2d6+d8.
Because of the lowered dice, I'm thinking the range band gain isn't
all that great. At anything over 12 inches, your range dice as the
defender is equal in size to your firecon dice. At anything over 36",
your range die exceeds both your die sizes (if using firecon).
Compare this to the non-firecon SAWs where you have to get to 24"
before the range die is a d8 (which then only exceeds one of your
three dice) and out to 32" before it is a d10 and matches or exceeds
all 3. So it seems the turreted SAW is better at range 32" or better,
but at ranges under that, the one without firecon is more likely to
cause casualties. And I don't know about you, but most of our fire
happens at 8-24". Esp if you involve any sort of ammo considerations.
So, I say again, is there not some way to deal with this? (Owen, I
realize troop quality plays in (ie if you have green troops, the
effects of range are more prounounced) but it goes both directions (
ie elite troops get d12 range bands and therefore get the same range
band as the turreted weapons with way better results if they only use
FP dice rather than firecon)).

So, am I the only one who sees the problem here?
