Well, the point of the last sentence was to imply that a human operator
did not necessarily have to be within the craft to pilot it.  On example
would be Ender's Game where pilots/commanders near Earth were
controlling
fleets and ships light years away via FTL communication that was
instantaneous and unjammable.
