Somehow I missed the original post ...

I saw the preview ... its "Space: Above & Beyond" right down to flack
jackets, machine guns/rifles; boxy insertion craft ...
No powered armor [unless this is going to be a "secret weapon"
Johnny joins that ultimately wins us the war].
Having been a long-time fan of StT I was "dreading" what was
going to
happen to it. When I saw the preview I was pretty ticked-off. However,
after
reading this discussion I think the best way to look at this is that
this is a
movie-length episode of "Space: Above and Beyond", just as there are
theatrical Star Trek episodes, and the title they chose for the movie is
just
like "Lost World" was chosen for Jurassic Park: Part 2 even though there
is a
classic written work already by that title.
Just a bit of re-programming, dissociation, and fatalism [heavy
sigh]
and Praise the Lord that they will spend so much time on this as an
action
film that they will leave the wonderful socio-political aspects of the
book
alone!
Thanks for the soapbox
