How powerful do you want them to be?  With the templates fixed but
movement
only say 1/2" the effect is the weapon covers more area.  I'd be tempted
to
use a template adjusted more towards this.  The problem comes if you are
using "normal" size ships than you can't cover as many ships.  A good
compromise would be to use a template say 3/4ths the size of the
"standard"
size.
