carrier launches

Subject: carrier launches

a sudden thought: how about giving ships an extra damage box row per
fighter
squadron, over the basic 1 or 2, which it can launch simultaneously? (I
subscribe to the "Carrier" = "fighter bays represent half or more of the
available systems mass" school)

eg consider a mass-60 carrier with 4 fighter bays.
Currently, she can launch 2 groups per turn.
She has 30 DP in 4 rows, 7/7/8/8.
Now consider the same ship modified to launch all 4 groups at once.
She has 30 DP in 6 rows, 5/5/5/5/5.

This means that a carrier optimized for speedy launch has more
fragile and vulnerable systems than a similar vessel with the fighter
bays
buried deep in the hull.

Rob Paul
