In my experience it is usually the *Kra'Vak* who don't want to go head to
head with the enemy, since that maximizes the number of enemy beam
batteries that are able to shoot at the Kra'Vak ships (most "broadside"
guns in Full Thrust cover the (F) arc as well). As KV fleets generally both
have fewer hull boxes overall than the enemy (due to the KV ships' higher
per-Mass cost) and also lack screens, a head-on encounter with a beam-armed
enemy usually hurts more for the Kra'Vak than for the enemy.

As a KV commander I want to avoid the enemy (F) arcs and instead attack the
enemy broadside or rear arcs (with my own (F) arcs, of course) - so if my
the deliberately turns away and exposes his broadside arcs to my attack
instead of coming to meet me head-on, I'd be quite happy! Not only does it
reduce the amount of fire my ships have to survive during the initial
attack; it also makes it easier for me to get into the enemy's rear arcs on
subsequent turns.
